# Terms of Use

**DRAFT - pending legal review**

Last updated: 2026-10-07

Get Git Gone is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by GitHub, Inc. GitHub and the Octocat are trademarks of GitHub, Inc.

These terms apply to playing Get Git Gone ("the game"), made by Anuj Tirole, based in India. Contact:
getgitgone@gmail.com. By playing you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the game.

## The game

The game turns public GitHub profiles into buildings and public repositories into floors you can "break into". The
heists are fiction: nothing is taken from anyone. The only real actions on GitHub are the ones you choose at the end
of a heist:

- **Fork** — the game's server forks the repository to *your* GitHub account, using the access you granted when you
  signed in.
- **Clone** — the optional command-line bridge on *your* computer clones the repository there. The bridge only
  clones and never receives your GitHub token.

You are responsible for what you do with forked or cloned code, including following each repository's licence and
GitHub's Terms of Service.

## Your account

You sign in with GitHub. Keep your GitHub account secure; you can revoke the game's access at any time in your GitHub
settings. Do not try to use another person's session or account.

## Acceptable use

Do not:

- attack, overload, scrape or probe the game or its servers, or get around its rate limits;
- cheat the leaderboards (for example by posting scores you did not earn) or automate play;
- choose a nickname that is offensive, impersonates someone, or infringes someone else's rights;
- use the game to harass anyone or to break the law or GitHub's terms.

We may remove nicknames, scores or decorations, and may block access, when these rules are broken.

## Heist tokens, decorations and leaderboards

Heist tokens, XP, ranks and decorations are part of the game only. They have no monetary value, cannot be bought,
sold or exchanged for money, and may be reset or changed when the game changes. Leaderboards show your GitHub login
or chosen nickname publicly.

## Buildings in the city

Buildings are made from public GitHub data. If your profile is in the city and you want it removed, see "Removing
your building" in the Privacy Policy or email getgitgone@gmail.com.

## Billboards and advertising

Screens in the city may show the creator's own messages and, in future, sponsored content marked "Sponsored". We are
not responsible for third-party sites that sponsored links open.

## Intellectual property

The game, its code (except where a separate licence applies, such as the MIT licence of the command-line bridge) and
its artwork belong to Anuj Tirole. Repository names, descriptions and avatars shown in the game belong to their
owners and are shown as GitHub provides them.

## No warranty

The game is a free hobby project provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. It may be unavailable, change, or
lose game progress at any time.

## Liability

To the extent the law allows, the creator is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for anything caused
by the actions you choose to take on GitHub (forks) or on your computer (clones). Nothing in these terms limits
liability that cannot be limited by law.

## Changes and law

We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version, and continuing to play means you accept it.
These terms are governed by the laws of India.
